Dinner with your Idol

Inspiration

The inspiration for my story came from being asked the question: "If you could eat dinner with any famous person from history, who would you eat with, and what would you ask them?". I've always thought that this idea was fascinating, and I think that meeting our heroes is something that everyone wants in life. And even if the person we want to meet is no longer with us, someone who acts very similarly to how they might have, such as AI, might do the trick!

What it does

The app allows the user to input the name of the person that they wish to have dinner with, and from then, have a conversation with the person, to the best of the AI's ability. The app will also show images of your chosen guest reacting to your input. Finally, you get to say goodnight and goodbye to your guest.

How we built it

This app was all built using the PartyRock layout, by creating multiple widgets and prompts to make the AI act according to user input.

Challenges we ran into

One of the hardest things about making this project work correctly was making the AI respond appropriately and in character to the user. By making the prompts very specific in how the response should behave, as well as testing different NLP models, the quality of the responses improved greatly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that the AI responds very in character to the input, because it was difficult to get the response to match up well with the user input, and not just be something very general.

What we learned

I learned a lot about prompt engineering, and what type of detail an AI needs to function according to a set group of rules, and also where to leave room for the AI to "think" for itself.

What's next for Dinner with your Idol

I think with more time, this project could be improved with more varied interactions with the NLP models, such as asking them what they would like for dinner, etc. I think the more widgets that would have been used, the better.
