Inspiration

From looking at apps similar to Elfster (secret Santa app) we wanted to make an app that brings people together while avoiding the yearly arguments of who brings what to the dinner whilst also avoiding the problem of items being forgotten entirely.

What it does

Christmas Contributor is a dinner party organising app. It allows the host of the party to enter what food items they have made and what items they need guests to bring. Guests can also add items they'd like to bring that aren't already on the list.

How we built it

In the development of Christmas Contributor, we selected a framework comprising Vue, JavaScript, and CSS. Although both team members had previous experience in React, JavaScript, and CSS, incorporating Vue for the first time introduced an additional layer of complexity to the Hackathon. However, this choice not only heightened the challenge but also provided an opportunity for the team to learn the foundational aspects of a new framework.

Challenges we ran into

As a team of two, we faced challenges in pair programming and working on separate tasks simultaneously. However, we overcame this by alternating between individual tasks like coding, researching Vue documentation, planning, and drawing wire frames.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Planning features to build after an initial app idea. Building a functional app in a new framework.

What we learned

This Hackathon provided an opportunity for us to learn the fundamentals of a new framework in a short amount of time, just like the "School of Code" bootcamp.

What's next for Dinner Delight

  • Add Christmas themed styling using nuxt to make the app more appealing.
  • Auth system using Supabase to allow users individual Login.
  • Invite feature for host
