Inspiration

A friend whose dietary restrictions make it difficult for them to know what to eat at the dining hall.

What it does

An app that will allow the user to filter items from the menu to see the available menu options that fit their dietary restrictions. The app also keeps track of calories and macronutrients consumed.

How we built it

We used python to filter through items on the dining hall's menu and pick out the ones that fit the indicated dietary restrictions.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into an issue where we were not able to access the food items on the website due to there being security restrictions. In the interest of time, we simply created our menu to ensure that our code worked.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the idea itself because it will definitely help a friend in need. In addition, we love how the idea of the app itself turned out because it would look incredible if actually implemented.

What we learned

We both learned how to use new programs. One of us learned how to access and implement HTML code in order to process data in real-time. Also, we learned about Figma and the usefulness of UI design. This hackathon also gave us an opportunity to see how to implement tech in real life, because this is the first hackathon we have both been to, and as first years we haven't had to opportunity to work on tech that solves real, present-day problems.

What's next for Campus Fit

We plan to be able to access the actual dining hall data in order to be able to make this a working app for students all throughout campus. We also want to translate our program into an actual mobile application, and we want to add more features such as calorie intake and potentially diet tracking (integrated with apple health).
