💡 Inspiration
- Many in lower-income & colored communities can’t afford retirement savings, women are 3x more likely to say they can't afford to retire.
- In certain communities, there were significantly lower rates of financial literacy.
- It’s time to break this unfair cycle and pave the way for kids, females, in particular from low-income families to achieve financial freedom.
💰 What it does
A web/Ipad app that educates and introduces financial literacy concepts to kids, tweens, and teens!
There are a handful of features:
- Target Panel: They can choose where they save their earnings. Allowing them to learn the concept of income & the value of money.
- Quest Dashboard: They can complete a quest given by their guardian to receive money. Allowing them to understand the concepts of savings
- Loan Board: They can ask for extra cash but have a fee for late payments. Allowing them to understand loans, interest, and debts.
- Rewards: For every $2 save they receive 1 dinero. They can use every 50 dinero to get a $5 gift card. Allowing them to understand cashback, as well as incentivize them to continue using the app.
🔨 How I built it
- I ideated with google docs & draw.
- I thought of branding, color schemes, typography. To make sure it was not only creative but aesthetically pleasing to our targeted audience.
- I thought of the use of emojis as it bridges the gap between our younger & older users.
- I worked on wireframes on Figma.
- I made low, then high fidelity prototypes on Figma. *I started with the child view, then the parent view.
😤 Challenges I ran into
- Finding teammates to create a project with.
- Working on the hack alone, as I’m a beginner.
- Working on both the child and parent screens & views.
- Time constraints
🏆 Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Completing my project on time despite the challenges stated above.
- Completing not only the child view of my idea/app but also the parent view.
- Competing for the first time as a solo!
📖 What I learned
- I learned more about user personas & user research
- I learned more about app design and UI
- I learned about using my research to create the UX
- I learned about design systems (typography, color, branding, etc.)
🚀 What's next for Dinero X
- Partner with a web and/or mobile developer to make my app more accessible to as many people as people
