Inspiration

With alot of dining in home during 2020, I wanted to make a skill that can help people find restaurants open for deliver or pickup.

What it does

Dine In Directory is an Alexa Skill that helps the user find restaurants open for delivery and pickup.

How I built it

Leveraging Alexa Conversations I was able to put together a dialog flow that helps the user along with collecting the search criteria needed. The search criteria is processed to narrow down a latitude/longitude and then leverages the yelp api for restaurant searching. The backend is an aws lambda using c#.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge is the learning curve on getting to know and use Alexa Conversations.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I was able to tame the beast knows as Alexa Conversations, such a great way to add back and forth dialogs.

What I learned

I learned how to configure and harness the power of Alexa Conversations, this has opened up much more possibilities for my future skills.
