Inspiration
Have you ever been in a group setting and everyone is arguing over where to go eat? Doesn't seem like you will ever find a place everyone can agree on. Well this is where Dinder comes in. It's a mix of the words dinner and tinder, where we brought the quick decision making of process of tinder to food, it really seemed like a no-brainer.
What it does
Dinder allows you to create a room for everyone to vote for restaurants in. You have a few customization options but overall is meant to be a fast paced frictionless process. Everyone votes for nearby locations they would be happy with and at the end of voting you're given back the closest place that everyone agreed they would be ok with.
How we built it
We built Dinder using a flutter for the frontend, giving us the ability to develop for android and IOS with one code base. The backend server is an http REST API written in Golang, hosted in digital ocean and communicates with a mongoDB ATLAS database.
Challenges we ran into
The searching algorithm logic was a challenge as we iterated on it throughout the weekend and multiple changes were made. The tie in between the frontend and backend was a little difficult as far as translation goes but overall went successfully after initial struggles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The spinning chicken leg is a feature we are most proud of.
What we learned
We learned about google location data as well as having a member of our group learn a ton since he was knew to development.
What's next for Dinder
We want to expand out our options as well as make the overall process and user experience feel more put together.
