Overview

This product compliments the already existing tours offered by the Buffalo Museum of History. It engages users with facts and visual graphics to aid in their exploration of Buffalo in 1901, while also allowing them to select a unique role to experience during this point in history.

This product has the potential to allow self guided tours, while also obtaining valuable user feedback for the museum. This data will allow for curated exhibits reflecting the most tour stops with the most engagement, while also allowing for future additions to the available character options and information provided on the tours.

Additionally, this feature would provide users with information about exhibits related to the role they chose, increasing foot traffic into the museum and creating a more immersive experience for visitors. This was designed with easy integration into the museums pre-existing website, allowing for shorter creation time and less investment needed. The chosen setup also allows for easy expansion for the roles offered in the tour and potential future features that may want to be added as extra webpages later on.

Feature Info

A unique feature addition that allows the visitor to select a "role" to have for the duration of the tour. The role curates special information for the visitor based on the role they choose, in addition to the general Pan-Am Expo info. This specially curated information relates to the location introduced and elaborates on what life would have been like at that time for the chosen role(e.g. student/student-aged-child, architect, international visitor, etc.). This information is unique to the role, allowing for users to have different information from tour to tour. This increases immersion and tour repeatability. For tours given to a specific group (such as school field trips), this feature can be used to tailor the experience directly to the participating group. This can increase community outreach to schools and other organizations.

Data Collection

A survey is included at the end of the tour on the visitors mobile device, allowing for user feedback on the tour experience. This includes location preferences/favorites on the tour. This data can be used to help the museum curate the exhibits in the museum to what the general public finds as the most interesting locations from the Pan-Am Expo. The survey also includes questions related to the "role" feature, including potential recommendations for future roles. This shows the scalability of the feature, including future updates with more options for role selection.

Exhibit Recommendations

Following the tour, the user is presented with exhibit recommendations based on each of the role options available during the tour. This will help redirect users back to the museum to learn more about each of the roles they were interested in.

Financial

Low development cost, since the platform is made for easy integration with the museums current website. This duty can fall upon the current web developer, resulting in reduced costs. Updates will be low cost and maintenance, just needing text/picture adjustments. Guided tours already require a fee, this platform can be used to conjunction with these tours. This service also opens the opportunity to self guided tours, with pre-recorded guides to follow the visual prompts provided. This can result in an increase in frequency of tours, ones that do not need a guide(less cost), and result in more tours purchased, increasing tour revenue. The service will be locked behind a paywall, once a tour is purchased, the user will receive a code to bypass the block to gain access to the service. Once the day ends, access will expire.

Marketing

Due to an increase in tour occurrence, public interaction with the museum should increase. This can include community members walking/driving past tours, increasing interest in museum/museum events or services. Due to customizable nature of the "role" feature, roles can be created to cater to specific groups coming to tours(such as school field trips), increasing marketability to larger organizations for specialized experiences.
