Inspirat## 💡 Inspiration
Every day, students our age receive frightening scam messages and links: fake prize offers, school account threats, or fake links regarding back-to-school arrangements. Most of us don't know how to spot them. This inspired me to build Digital Shield, a tool designed not only for my upcoming school campaign on digital footprints and deepfakes, but to act as a 1-click safety shield for every student.
🛠️ What it does
Digital Shield is an AI-powered security assistant and bilingual educational platform.
- Instant Threat Checker: Users can paste any link or message to get precise, real-time AI analysis explaining why it's a threat, while correctly recognizing safe official links (like Google Classroom or Zoom) without false alarms. Fully supports both English and Arabic.
- Interactive Challenge Mode: A gamified practice mode where students test their scam-detection skills and receive instant AI-driven explanations to build long-term digital resilience.
🏗️ How I built it
- Framework & Styling: Built using Next.js (App Router) and Tailwind CSS for a fast, modern, and responsive user experience.
- AI Integration: Threat analysis and challenge feedback run on the DeepSeek-V3 model through the Featherless.ai API.
- Deployment: Successfully deployed and hosted live on Render.
🚧 Challenges I ran into
- Handling asynchronous AI responses and race conditions during interactive challenge guesses.
- Ensuring seamless bilingual layout switching (LTR/RTL) and accurate state synchronization.
- Fine-tuning prompt logic to minimize false positives on standard educational URLs.
📚 What I learned
Building Digital Shield entirely by myself from scratch taught me deep insights into secure API routing, state management in Next.js, and how to harness AI models effectively for social good and digital awareness education.
