Inspiration
As we have stepped into adulthood as high schoolers, we have been getting more and more scam messages. We were worried about how people like our grandparents might fall for these scams and as such we created a scam detection program to make sure that they are safe from scams.
What it does
Our product is a set of tools designed to combat internet and fruad scams. Some of our features include text spam detection and credit card fruad detection.
How we built it
We built the web application that composed of the scam prevention, credit card fraud detector, and Q and A bot. We took input of data and trained our algorithms and models to display information in the web application informing users about the scams.
Challenges we ran into
Machine learning was very new to all of our members and making this project was very challenging for our expertise in the field. Other challenges we came across include having to work strictly online as we many of us were working from different parts of the country
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a working ml model with practically no experience! we learned plenty on the way and are very proud of our end result
What we learned
We learned how to use machine learning models such as Naive Bayes and tools like Panda and Numpy. We also learned how to work with shared coding platforms such as Github more effectively.
What's next for Digital Scam Protection Toolkit
We would like to implement this web application into softwares where scams are prevalent like discord, whatsapp, and signal. We also want to add more features, like a purchase recommender, that recommends to the user whether a certain product is a scam or not. Lastly, we would like to improve the credit card fraud detector to look for more factors.
