Inspiration
Students and young people often experience examination pressure, fear of failure, loneliness, anger, confusion, and difficulty making important decisions. Many existing AI assistants provide generic answers, while traditional wisdom is often presented in language that feels difficult to understand or apply.
Digital Krishna was inspired by the relationship between Krishna and Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. Krishna did not simply give Arjuna an answer—he listened, understood his conflict, changed his perspective, and helped him take responsible action.
We wanted to bring that same idea into a modern, accessible AI experience.
What it does
Digital Krishna is an AI-powered multilingual wisdom and wellbeing companion.
Users can describe a personal, emotional, academic, or life-related problem in English, Hindi, or Hinglish. The platform analyses the situation and provides:
- An empathetic and context-aware response
- Relevant Bhagavad Gita wisdom
- A simple explanation of the teaching
- Practical steps the user can take
- Multilingual and voice-based guidance
- Follow-up questions for a more personalised conversation
Digital Krishna is not designed to replace therapists, doctors, emergency services, or trusted adults. It is an educational and reflective companion that helps users move from confusion toward clarity and constructive action.
How we built it
We developed Digital Krishna as a responsive web platform with a conversational AI interface.
The system combines:
- User-intent understanding to identify the main concern and emotional context.
- Wisdom retrieval to find relevant teachings and supporting references.
- LLM-based response generation to produce natural and personalised guidance.
- Structured response generation to separate empathy, wisdom, explanation, and action steps.
- Multilingual support for English, Hindi, and natural Hinglish conversations.
- Text-to-speech functionality for users who prefer listening instead of reading.
- Safety controls to prevent harmful, misleading, or inappropriate guidance.
We also designed the interface to be calming, simple, mobile-responsive, and accessible across different devices.
Challenges we faced
One major challenge was preventing the assistant from producing generic spiritual quotations without understanding the user’s actual problem.
We addressed this by structuring responses around four stages:
Understand the problem → select relevant wisdom → explain its meaning → recommend practical action
Another challenge was balancing cultural authenticity with accessibility. The teachings needed to remain respectful while still being understandable to users with no previous knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita.
We also worked on improving response speed, multilingual consistency, voice playback, mobile responsiveness, and the safe handling of sensitive conversations.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
- Created an AI experience that connects timeless wisdom with modern challenges
- Supported English, Hindi, and Hinglish conversations
- Combined emotional acknowledgement with practical action plans
- Added source-based spiritual guidance instead of random quotations
- Developed a responsive and visually engaging user experience
- Added responsible limitations and safety-focused responses
- Created an experience that is useful even for people with little religious knowledge
What we learned
We learned that meaningful AI support requires more than generating fluent text. The system must understand context, communicate responsibly, explain its reasoning in simple language, and help the user take a realistic next step.
We also learned the importance of testing multilingual prompts, reducing unnecessary complexity, improving accessibility, and clearly communicating the limitations of an AI wellbeing companion.
What's next for Digital Krishna
Our next steps include:
- Improving retrieval accuracy and source verification
- Adding more Indian languages
- Developing personalised learning and reflection journeys
- Introducing mood and progress tracking with user consent
- Expanding the verified wisdom library
- Improving accessibility for visually impaired users
- Conducting responsible user testing
- Developing mobile applications
- Partnering with educators and wellbeing experts
Our long-term vision is to make culturally relevant, responsible, and practical AI guidance accessible to anyone who needs clarity during a difficult moment.
