Inspiration

During the COVID 19 pandemic concerns about mental health have grown and new barriers have arisen for people already suffering from mental illness. As people live in isolation, young people might have intrusive thoughts from not being good enough to being suicidal. The app, Digital Jar, is for Gen Z youth to have a safe environment to send and receive positive affirmations from others. The inspiration for this project comes from our personal connection toward mental health We had people in our lives who were not in the best mental state and we dedicate this app to them.

What it does

The app enables users to create “digital jars” which contain pieces of digital paper that have positive affirmations. Users can create multiple jars for different categories or reasons, write affirmations, read articles to help improve mental health and talk to people.

How we built it

We built the app using Figma a prototyping tool, and the app is fully functional

Challenges we ran into

We had some difficulties picking colors, writing quotes and how to layout the project. We had the whole idea in our heads, but it was hard to put it on paper. Eventually, it worked out, and we have an awesome project!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We had busy schedules but we were able to coordinate times to get the work done. We divided the work evenly and we are proud to have created an app together.

What we learned

We learned a lot about time management and how to work with each other remotely.

What's next for Digital Jar

Given that we had more time to complete the project, our next goals would be to have users be able to send a full jar to a friend, take mental health assessments, and access worldwide counselling.
