Inspiration
Digital Footprints are some of the most overlooked negative contributors to climate change and our environment. We wanted to build an intuitive solution to prolong these harmful effects
What it does
CarByte is an adaptive digital footprint optimizer that takes form of a google chrome extension. Essentially, by adapting to a users online routines, it will make smart decisions on effectively suggesting its users to make more eco-friendly habits.
How we built it
CarByte utilizes a fully integrated statistical model that can learn a users online routines, telling another part of our system how and when to start monitoring their activity. This way, suggestions are fit to specific windows of time in each day, and only transfer to notifications when a website produces a large digital footprint. These suggestions are eco-friendly alternative website relevant to the users current website that was generated via an AI agent request.
Challenges we ran into
We noticed that with the data processing needed for our extensions, it produces its own digital footprint, where our AI response generates an exponentially large footprint. We needed a way to minimize this to create a positive threshold in saving carbon energy, meeting our goals.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
By creating a system that can optimally measure the ranges of hours where users are most active, we avoid over calculating unnecessary data processing, additionally, by efficiently managing an interconnected database of user information, we can always retrieve recurring data such as websites that have already been analyzed.
What we learned
We learned a ton about managing our GitHub repositories, project management such as setting deadlines and assigning roles, and learned many sorting algorithms and data management techniques
What's next for Digital Footprint Optimizer
I can’t wait to implement the same concept we’ve brought to CarByte to so many future projects using the statistical model.
