Inspiration
To be honest here that we are inspired by prizes in the first place. But the mission to eradicate breast cancer was the factor that lead us towards this two weeks journey.
What it does
Our application provides user-friendly self check up, specific exercise and diet plans for each user based on the cluster they have been categorized. It also has features to track daily tasks needed to be done and show progress based on that. It also provides information regarding cancer centers in their locality. In whole point of view, it makes less need of doctor and guides the user through all needs steps.
How I built it
As we have defined what are all the problems we are going to tackle with a lot of brainstorming sessions among us, we started with UI design initially. It was followed by Front end and Back end codes including all Machine learning algorithms needed.
Challenges I ran into
When we started analyzing problem areas, there are plenty of them which needs to be solved and we had optimal solutions for them too. But considering time as main factor, we short listed some important problems which needed most of our attention. 1) If you ask, 'do most of people know about breast cancer?', answer is obviously 'YES'. Most of the people getting breast cancer knows about it previously and they could've find it, if they did self check up regularly. But they didn't do. Google Trends analysis shows that Breast cancer related terms was getting searched mostly during October. In other months it was just a flat line. Reason is that people forgets to do self check-up by Nov or Dec with considering their 'busy' schedule. This was like a simple and huge problem.
2) There are some sort of exercises and diet plans that needs to be followed to reduce risk of getting breast cancer. But it was not common for all. It purely depends on the condition of each user separately. For example, a woman who is pregnant needs a separate exercise and diet plans. But most of the applications are not doing that. They are simply suggesting common exercise and diet plans for everyone. For the user to find it out by themselves, it will take 20-25 minutes of google search approximately. We wanted to provide a one stop solution. Our machine learning algorithm will be dividing users into different clusters based on the data they provided and suggests only those exercise plans that was preferable for their category.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
One thing that all of us can proudly say is 'We are not only part of a hackathon, But indeed part of a worldwide movement against breast cancer'. Also considering the current scenario, connecting with a team virtually and working together to develop a workable solution also makes us proud.
What I learned
Every single moment that we worked on this event gave as a new learning in some way. But this whole event taught us on one important behavioral change. Before this event, if I was learning some new technology or I'm an expert in any particular technology means, I'll be simply looking for available project opportunities, pay scale and future of that technology. But now we are also aware that the same technology can help us solving some main problems people are facing. No matter how small our solution is, it does matter.
What's next for Digital Dragons
As we mentioned above, we had to short list our ideas because of shorter time period given. Here goes our future implementation, Nearly all of the applications and awareness events conducted are focusing on Urban people or people from Structed organizations. People from rural areas or from unstructured organizations who don't have access to technology are not aware of most of the information. For them saying to do this self check-up to know about the possibility of having breast cancer would simply create panic in them. So having awareness reach those levels needs to be taken care .
