Inspiration
Many people who have the access and skills to use digital technologies often take this ability for granted. We wanted to create a webpage that would make the internet accessible and usable for more people, targeting specifically the elderly and underserved populations.
What it does
The webpage primarily consists of tutorials for different types of commonly used technologies. In addition, there are sections of the webpage that explain the different types of digital divides and why it is important to combat this divide.
How we built it
We build the website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also created the tutorials on our own, with the help of some outside sources.
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary challenges was the tutorials taking much longer than expected. It was also difficult to decide who we wanted our target audience to be, focusing on either the elderly or people with disabilities that would prevent online access. Lastly, we had to make sure to limit our ideas due to the time constraints and what we realistically could complete within the given timeframe.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finishing the webpage.
What we learned
We learned that we take our ability to use the internet for granted.
What's next for Digital Bridge
Some of the ideas we would want to implement are adding mini quizzes to each of the tutorials, improving the visual accessibility of the page (option for larger font sizes), tracking and saving the user progress in a database, adding a login page, and covering Google Sheets.
