Inspiration
We had noticed there weren't enough digital bookshelves to store all of the readings that we had done so we wanted to innovate on a storage-based website that takes inspiration from Kindle's "online database" properties and add a little twist of modernity.
What it does
DigiShelf is a digital library that stores all of the books that you may have read, categorized into 3 possible genre options. The library is customizable by color, amount of shelves and books, dark mode and name/author.
How we built it
We used React, Typescript and most of the properties of the MERN stack. The frontend is hosted on Vercel and the backend is on Render.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some design challenges such as making the library itself as well as making it connect to the backend. Some merge conflicts had stumped us but we ended up fixing them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a fully functional website that is able to have users store their login credentials, a working database, and a digital library that allows users to store their readings, just like we intended!
What we learned
We learned and polished our MERN stack as well as frontend, backend and database capabilities. We refreshed on Typescript, React and file functionalities.
What's next for DigiShelf
We are looking to polish some features such as a animation for logging in as well as a fully functional Delete Account option.
