Inspiration
According to WHO, approximately 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. Injuries relating to road crash are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5-29 years. Besides the social cost, we also have a strong personal connection to this issue as we lost multiple friends in recent years. Such accidents affect each and every one of us directly or indirectly, emphasizing the need for a solution.
What it does
DigiPlate is a revolutionary idea that digitizes number plates in Ontario for prevention of vehicle accidents. It entails the digital plate itself, and the Copilot app that acts as an assistant to make your driving safer and more comfortable, and a blockchain-based backend to securely exchange insurance details between vehicles in case of a crash.
How we built it
We build it using a React frontend, an Ethereum smart contract based backend written in GoLang and using Cockroach DB as our database. For the mobile demo, we used Flutter for frontend.
Challenges we ran into
Most of the technologies used were new to us and required quite a lot of preperation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the product to work!
What we learned
A lot of new languages to work with.
What's next for DigiPlate
Digiplate has a lot on its plate.
