Inspiration

The inspiration behind DigiMart stemmed from the increasing popularity of online marketplaces and the growing interest in blockchain technology. We wanted to create a platform that combined the convenience of online shopping with the security and transparency provided by blockchain.

What it does

DigiMart is an online marketplace built with NEAR blockchain technology that enables users to trade both physical and digital goods securely using cryptocurrency. The platform leverages the power of the NEAR Wallet to facilitate seamless transactions and ensure the safety of user funds.

How we built it

To build DigiMart, we utilized the NEAR blockchain platform as the underlying technology, using NEAR and Blockchain Operating System (BOS). We developed a web-based application using NodeJS for the backend and the React framework for the frontend. NEAR and BOS served as the smart contract between the front and backend, and we used git for version control for seamless collaboration

Challenges we ran into

We faced several challenges in setting up our environment using NEAR, and it caused significant delays in our progress. Since NEAR was relatively new, we didn’t know how to fix many of our bugs. We also had conflicts when pulling each other’s changes due to different developing environments, as well as setting up the smart contract. We had to work efficiently, making meetings with each other and communicating to try and fix these issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have made significant progress towards DigiMart while learning more about crypto and blockchain in the process. We learned a lot about using NEAR and BOS, while also about the importance of collaboration. Furthermore, we were able to create a responsive backend and a user-friendly interface that enhanced the overall shopping experience.

What we learned

Throughout the development of DigiMart, we gained valuable insights into blockchain technology, specifically the NEAR blockchain. We deepened our understanding of smart contract development, how to efficiently use React and NodeJS, and the importance of scalability in an online marketplace. We also learned about the challenges associated with creating a user-friendly interface and ensuring a seamless user experience in a short timespan.

What's next for DigiMart

Looking ahead, we envision DigiMart becoming a greater platform for digital trading. We'll continuously improve, expand features, and offer a user-friendly interface. Building trust and facilitating seamless transactions, we aim to establish ourselves as the go-to marketplace for digital goods, long-term.
