Inspiration
Many developing, including India, and under-developed countries have a scarcity of good hospitals and doctors in rural and remote regions because a huge proportion of doctors want to work in large cities and urban areas. Furthermore, when a patient appears untreatable or is unable to be diagnosed, he or she is frequently referred to a certain hospital in a certain city, which is inconvenient for the patient and sometimes fatal. So my goal is to develop a platform where unlike patient-to-doctor contact I establish a huge network for hospital-to-doctors connections, in which doctors can from around the globe can share their valuable feedbacks for the treatment of patients admitted in remote hospitals. This platform must be secure and beneficial to patients, so appropriate security measures must be implemented to avoid sharing any patient information in the wrong hands.
What it does
I want to create a platform where hospitals and doctors can benefit from each other, which will help patients and society as a whole. This platform is a website we named as "digiKitsa" which is a combination of the words "digital" and "chikitsa" meaning medical treatment. Here, hospitals will regularly update their databases for all patients admitted to their premises on our platform. Doctors, on the other hand, may access these databases on their laptops, PCs, and phones from anywhere in their spare time from the same platform. We are primarily concerned with collecting data on patients who require immediate medical attention. We want to provide not only patient information and previous medical reports, but also a real-time patient monitor that is sent straight to the doctors' laptop screen, including a heart-rate monitor, oxygen monitor, and pulse monitor, etc. With these data, a doctor anywhere in the globe can diagnose a patient of his/her department of expertise more accurately and send feedback to hospitals immediately with just one click. The hospital will review the input and take appropriate action. Aside from the patients' personal information, medical students will have access to all other medical information for the purpose of enhancing their learning. We're currently concentrating on getting this platform up and running on a very basic level. It will begin with a single patient, a single hospital, and a single doctor. This will be the initial step in our quest, and we hope to expand this platform to a global level over time. We'll use the MCI (Medical Corporation of India) databases, which issues licenses to hospitals and doctors for their practice, to authenticate hospitals and doctors. We intend to ask medical students for their identification cards and cross-check them against the databases of their individual colleges. We also want to protect patients' data from being misused in any way. As a result, we're taking adequate security precautions. For example, Personal information about a patient, will be viewable only to the hospital and doctors. Medical students will only have access to the patient's medical history, prescriptions, and data from real-time patient monitors.
How we built it
For making the prototype, I am going to use Tailwind, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and databases. For payment gateways and for encryption of databases I am aiming to use ** block-chain** because of its secure environment. But I am aiming to move this platform on React-JS framework as it will help me in optimizing the code.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest obstacle in executing this project is the minimal resources we have at the moment. One key stage in this project, for example, is to display real-time data like heart-rate monitor, oxygen monitor, and pulse monitor, from the patient monitor. Due to COVID, we are not allowed to pay visits in hospitals. But to tackle that I talked to two-three doctors that if fetching and getting these monitors’ data to their own laptops is possible and he replied positively that it is possible with some means of technology and software. And hence, I became sure that this idea of mine can be put into real-life application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to have created a completely responsive platform with the help of that every patient will receive proper medical treatment and diagnosis. No matter whether he or she lives in a rural region or can't afford healthcare in a big city owing to geographical or financial constraints. Every patient in need will receive quality medical care. This approach will assist medical students in gaining a better understanding of a patient's medical history and how senior practitioners diagnose him or her. On a bigger scale, we may expect to see this platform used by other developing and underdeveloped countries to provide quality medical treatment to their patients with the assistance of qualified doctors from across the world. As a conclusion, we hope to save millions of lives in the long run.
What we learned
I learned various new technologies like html, css, javascript,jQuery, bootstrap and Tailwind. In coming future we are planning to learn Blockchain to increase security of our platform.
What's next for digiKitsa
"Blood availability in the hospital portal," "sorting patients with departments," and other new features will be added to make this platform the sole thing required by any medical facility. We also are aiming to make an app around this idea. As previously said, in order to collect real-time data, we must have on-hand use of these monitors under some supervision. Another feature we hope to add to this platform is the ability to notify doctors in different departments of any patients' conditions that require immediate treatment.
Business relevance
We are intending to make a non-profitable platform for the sake of helping those in need. But if application in business model is needed, follow plans can be taken into account. As we can see, in this platform hospitals can arrange a proper fee payment budget for the doctors who successfully submit a feedback for their patients. There is going to be a advertising opportunities on this platform for pharmaceutical companies that will add to revenue collection on this website. Also we are going to introduce virtual coin system so we can also collaborate with several online stores regarding this.
