Inspiration
Whilst studying, I realized that a majority of my time wasted was from flipping through videos under the guise that I was looking for study music or getting distracted on the way to checking assignment deadlines. So, I wanted to consolidate the websites I use most in order to minimize the time in between and get me from the start of my study session to the end quickly.
What it does
Digihome is my digital homepage to keep the websites I frequent together in one place so that I spend less time navigating to them and getting distracted in the process. I have 4 separate buttons/sections of the website: goals, calendar, tunes, and free write. One for each of the 4 websites I access the most: a to-do list, my Google calendar, a lo-fi playlist, and a document to write or brainstorm as I study.
How we built it
I build this website using React.js and I relied heavily on the Material UI component library to help me as I constructed the buttons.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into problems with the styling of the buttons, but that was easily resolved by searching online, finding tutorials, watching Youtube videos and finally resolving to asking the Help Desk made available by the organizing time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of creating my first React website on my own and hope this will be the first of many! Despite the simplicity of the website, I've learned a lot about the software and inadvertently picked up on CSS and HTML along the way. I also learned a lot about color theory as I was choosing colors that I thought complemented each other.
What we learned
I learned to persevere and exhaust my resources before taking a break or calling for help. This project helped me build my resolve and taught me a lot about continuing forward despite hardship and struggle.
What's next for Digihome
My ultimate goal for Digihome is to make it into a web app with access to all of the websites embedded into the app to prevent me from opening the Internet at all during my study sessions to maximize my productivity.
