Inspiration
Our inspiration for this hackathon project came from seeing how many people, especially in rural areas, struggle to understand financial concepts due to language barriers and lack of accessible resources. We wanted to create a solution that feels personal, simple, and easy to use — something that speaks their language, listens to their voice, and guides them clearly. The hackathon motivated us to combine voice technology, AI, and multilingual support to build a tool that could truly make financial literacy more inclusive.
What it does
Our project is a multilingual financial literacy assistant that: Understands voice or text queries in regional languages Converts speech to text Translates the question if needed Uses AI to generate simple financial explanations Shows English meanings of key financial words Responds back in regional language audio Provides offline answers through stored FAQs
How we built it
We used: Flask for backend OpenAI for chat responses and translations Whisper for speech-to-text gTTS/OpenAI TTS for voice output A simple web interface for user interaction All components were connected into a pipeline: voice → text → translation → AI/FAQ → reply → regional language audio.
