Inspiration

Sarah and Dave had worked together in a previous full-time role and missed the partnership. We wanted an excuse to build something together again, and Shipaton gave us one: a useful, ambitious app with a delightfully weird personality.

What it does

Cravings Ace is a diet copilot that helps users catch cravings before they become decisions. It uses optional signals such as location, routines, and user-configured triggers to offer a timely check-in, then guides users through an in-the-moment intervention—whether that means pausing, reflecting, calling in support, or talking it through with Copilot.

How we built it

We split ownership across the app’s major surfaces and features, then worked in parallel with a shared design system and product vision to keep the experience cohesive.

Challenges we ran into

  • App Review: We submitted three times before getting approved. Nothing builds character quite like App Review.
  • Copilot: We initially built around Apple Foundation Models, but found the experience too limited for the coaching quality we wanted. We later switched Copilot to the OpenAI API.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

  • We designed and built a feature-rich app in just three weeks.
  • AI coding tools dramatically accelerated delivery, allowing us to bring several “post-launch” ideas into the initial MVP.
  • We built a surprisingly deep product: proactive check-ins, craving interventions, reflective logging, optional health context, and an AI copilot.
  • Most importantly, we had a blast building together.

What we learned

We learned a ton about moving quickly with AI-assisted development—and we’re still learning the equally important part: social marketing and getting the app in front of the people who need it.

What’s next for Cravings Ace: The Diet Copilot

Initial user feedback is starting to come in, and we already have a strong list of post-MVP improvements lined up. Next comes iteration, marketing, and getting Cravings Ace into more hands.
