Inspiration
The recent shrink-flation strategy practiced by businesses since the pandemic to increase margins and to sustain relatively stable revenues. Most consumers are unware of this and thought having a platform to pool in data that others can also leverage and explore change in price per unit, quantity, to accordingly explore trends and alternative brand options.
What it does
Essentially a crowd sourcing platform that maintains data on different products on which different analysis can be run from a consumer point of view, on how different brands are evolving their pricing models as a way to adapt to changing economic landscape.
How we built it
In the process of building a web app with react front-end and appwrite backend.
Challenges we ran into
Deciding on the tech stack on whether to go with MERN stack on a cloud backend. Settled on react front-end and outsourcing server-side logic to appwrite, to deal with authentication, databases, storage, as there is a need to handle image uploads and updates.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
Exploring tech stack that fits the application needs and to use third party libraries, to promote code re-use and ways to build something in smaller duration.
What's next for Did It Shrink
Implementing data analysis strategies to capture trends like shrink-flation, brand comparison in a dashboard. Possible community engagement on including legitimate data with multiple sources and other exploring more community use-cases.
