Inspiration
While reading articles and research papers, I often had to open new tabs just to look up unfamiliar words. This constant switching interrupted my focus and learning flow. I wanted a seamless, integrated way to understand any word instantly without leaving the page. That idea led me to create Chrome AI Word Define, a browser extension powered by Google Chrome’s on-device AI.
What it does
Chrome AI Word Define is a browser extension that instantly provides definitions for any word you highlight on a webpage.
When a user selects a word and right-clicks, the extension uses Chrome’s on-device AI (Gemini Nano) to generate a short, context-aware definition — all processed locally without sending data to external servers.
The definition appears instantly in a small popup, allowing users to:
Learn new words without leaving the page
Read and research faster
Maintain focus without switching tabs
Because it runs on-device, it ensures privacy, speed, and offline functionality while demonstrating the practical use of Chrome’s built-in AI capabilities.
