Inspiration
My inspiring was really just my daily life. I use apps like my fitness pal and libre link to keep track of all these things but I feel like it doesn't paint the whole picture for someone with my condition. I'm really making this app for people like myself who have a challenging time dealing with diabetes and simplifying an aspect of their lives' at least a little bit.
What it does
The mobile app keeps track of your blood sugars for the day by either taking data from your wearable sensor or finger pricks and puts it side by side with the exercise that you've done that day and the food you've ate. It allows you to clearly quantify and compare how much you eat, exercise and take insulin individually and it also helps you clearly see the relationship those three activities have with each other. The My Fitness Pal API does a really good job of tracking macro nutrients in each meal and making it easier the more you use the API.
How we built it
I built the app using React native and it was my first time using it. I plan to integrate the my fitness pal API for the fitness and meals portion of the app and the terra API to get sensor data as well as the choice to manually update a csv file of your glucose logs that most glucometers come with.
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating something meaningful to myself and other people using a passion/skill that is also meaningful to me.
What we learned
I learned a lot about how to organize my files while making a large project, companies are very stingy when it comes to healthcare related APIs and how to actually create a cross platform mobile app.
What's next for Diathletic
I plan to make the app fully functional because right now there is a lot of dummy data. I wish to be able to use this app in my everyday life because its great to actually see the effects of something great that you have completed. I also REALLY hope that one stranger finds any sort of value in the software that I created.
