Inspiration

We would have seen how our mothers dispose the diapers of our baby siblings or adult diapers of our old grandparents. In our house, we usually burn it as no one comes to pick it up. Even though we know it is harmful we do not have another way to dispose it. And as a woman, I know how hard it is to dispose our sanitary napkins. And if we take a count of diapers and sanitary napkins used, it is a lot. And when we were asked to produce a project based on woman related problems, why not try to overcome this problem.

What it does

Collecting diapers and sanitary pads. Separating and then recycling and reusing the SAP and pulp. We reuse the SAP and PULP by mixing it with soil to use it as the soil conditioner. Selling the recycled and reused products with the help of an app. We have submitted another solution for the same were we recycled SAP and pulp using ozone treatment which is very costly and therefore cannot be implemented and put to a good cause. And we only designed a UI for the app. So we brainstormed to overcome it and figured instead of recycling it, why not reuse it. And this time we did built an app.

How we built it

First we collect the diapers from the clients and is handed over to the kudumbasree. The clients are supposed to enter the details into the app so that the kudumbasree unit can access the information. Then the kudumbasree will separate it and enter the details of the product so that the company can buy from them using our app. We made the UI design using the figma and built the app by bringing the design into a reality using flutter.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest one was how to overcome the financial issue we were facing with the ozone treatment for recycling the SAP and pulp. The next one was how to properly implement an app using flutter and as all of the members are from different places we had to communicate through video communications app and due to the covid situation going on we were not able to meet up which made it really tough to keep align each of our work and bring it together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The first time we tried to tackle this problem we were beginners and was not able to put all of our effort into, more like we couldn't because we lacked skills. So this time we feel immensely proud of ourselves as we spent our time to build on our skills and bring out a really good project that can actually be hopefully implemented.

What we learned

We learned to implement an app using flutter. And also that how hard it is to dispose diapers and sanitary napkins and if not done properly how dangerous it can be. Even though we are not able to see the consequences of not disposing it properly, it will be a huge problem in the near future.
