Inspiration

Diabetes is a frustrating condition that impacts many people over the course of their life. Today, we have technologies that can dramatically improve the condition of life for those that deal with diabetes. We're inspired by the opportunity to positively impact people with technology.

What it does

Automates tedious parts of the diabetic condition, such as taking blood samples, digesting critical information, and preparing medical regimens. Interact with Diamedic simply by talking to it.

This product does effectively two things. There is a passive observer that watches your dietary and biological metrics. This observer provides information to the second piece of the product that enacts a solution.

The active piece of Diamedic works with your insulin pump and continuously implements a regimen to regulate blood sugar for your body. Altogether, Diamedic maintains your diabetic condition so you can get back to life.

How I built it

This product is built as a ruby-on-rails cloud application. Several APIs are used in the application to provide a rich, capable experience. These APIs include Microsoft Cognitive Services and IBM Watson for the technical capabilities, and other consumer APIs that provide particular information such as nutrition data or medical updates.

Challenges I ran into

A project like this will only be successful if the technology is precisely leveraged to solve a widespread problem and not add additional challenges to the daily process. While there are still technological hurdles to overcome, acquiring all the necessary medical knowledge was critical to creating this product.
