Inspiration

We were thinking about the theme of Building Bridges. How might we build something that would help folks in their language learning journey & make new friends? Especially as traveling continues being difficult.

What it does

Everyone can speak at least one language. Let's say you speak English. Your interest in K-dramas & K-pop has led you to learn Korean. While there are a lot of apps out there, you wish you could practice with someone who already spoke the language.

That's where Dialect comes in! The Omegle-style video chat matches you with people who are looking to learn a language you already speak, while being expert communicators in the languages you are trying to learn.

In our Demo, Macy is matched with Jet. Macy speaks Korean & wants to learn English. Conversely, Jet speaks English & wants to learn Korean.

How we built it

The demo is a Figma prototype.

We also started mocking up the HTML+CSS pages.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to build something fast. So instead of research, we were mostly pulling inspiration from things we had already seen or experienced.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Having a prototype! It was great to have our idea demonstrated through Figma.

What we learned

We learned that collaborating online can be tough! There were a few technical issues in the meetings. But we're glad we could make something happen for the project.
