This is my concept for fixing the problem of annoying robocalls. It would not require any software or hardware upgrades for the consumer and the system has already been proven useful in other areas. My concept is that when you dial a number and it starts dialing a short second later a recorded message will come on asking you to perform a simple task. This task could be anywhere from spelling a word using the letters on the numbers or answering simple math questions. It could get more specific or detailed depending on what is deemed appropriate for the average person and what blocks the most robocalls. If a user answers the question wrong all they simply need to do is hang up and repeat. The questions are aimed at being simple enough that they don't require any more than 5 seconds and are kid friendly and hard enough that robocalls can't get passed them. To prevent organizations(first response, charities) or people with disabilities the freedom of bypassing the system they would simple register their phone number and their outgoing calls would continue without being compromised by the system. When I mentioned it is already being used I am referring to call centers around the word that require the user to input a number or state a reason to get their call to where it needs to go. This would be an expansion of that idea and this is why I believe the technology is already here to complete it and that it would just require simple upgrades and cooperation by large phone companies. I would hope that short amount of time it requires while your phone call is being placed would be acceptable if it saves you time down the road when your getting random phone calls. I appreciate your time and consideration.
