Inspiration for Diabotics

Diabotics, is an Alexa Skill optimized for the Echo Show, that integrates with an IoT wearable device to capture, analyze, and alert on patient glucose levels.

What it does

Diabotics has several useful features for Type 2 Diabetics:

1.) Monitoring of glucose level by integrating with IoT enabled wearable device that captures glucose levels

Sample Interaction:
User: "Alexa, open Diabotics and ask how is my health?"
Alexa Voice: "I am reading your glucose level now. Your glucose levels are in normal range."
Echo Show Screen: The current glucose level displays along with a graph/chart of the past 5 readings.

2.) Uses Alexa Calling & Messaging to call a family member and Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) to alert doctor's office when glucose levels fall into the danger zone

Sample Interaction:
User: "Alexa, open Diabotics and ask how is my health?"
Alexa Voice: "I am reading your glucose level now. Your glucose levels are in the danger zone. Please administer insulin and confirm."
Echo Show Screen: A red alert message appears showing glucose level in danger zone.
Alexa Voice: "Please confirm that insulin was administered".
Alexa Voice: "Since you did not respond, I am calling your emergency contact and alerting your doctor with a text message"
Alexa Voice:"I will also automatically administer insulin through your IoT enabled wearable device. The administering of insulin via the IoT wearable device is Phase 2.

3.) Providing time-sensitive meal reminders and recommendations to help keep blood sugar levels stable. Phase 2 will include ordering meals through Amazon Restaurants.

Sample Interaction:
User: "Alexa, open Diabotics and ask how is my health?"
Alexa Voice: "I am reading your glucose level now. Your glucose levels are in normal range."
Alexa Voice: "I noticed that it is lunch time. If you haven't eaten already, make sure you eat soon to maintain healthy blood sugar levels."
Echo Show Screen: An image of a healthy lunch appears with a prompt to order lunch. User's favorite food is ordered using the Amazon Restaurants delivery service. The ordering of food is Phase 2.

4.) Provide mood based messaging using pictures taken via the camera on the Echo Show and Computer Vision technology. Phase 2 includes the use of Computer Vision/Amazon Rekognition.

Sample Interaction:
User: "Alexa, open Diabotics and ask how is my health?"
Camera on Echo Show snaps picture of user and sends to Amazon Rekognition API to determine user's mood
Alexa Voice: "You do not look happy and appear to be stressed. Do not forget that stress can cause unpredictable and potentially dangerous fluctuations in your blood sugar level. Let me tell you a joke."
Alexa Voice: "Why did the chicken cross the road?"
Alexa Voice: "To get to the to other side"

5.) Bluetooth Scale - Integration with bluetooth scale to automatically track weight and offer weight management tips. Phase 2 includes this integration.

Sample Interaction:
User: "Alexa, open Diabotics and ask how is my health?"
Echo Show Screen: Shows user's current weight and chart/graph of the last 5 readings
Alexa Voice: Your weight has steadily increased over the last 6 months. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented if you maintain a healthy weight.

6.) Machine Learning - Analyze trends in the user's glucose levels to make predictions about what the glucose levels will be and provide proactive messaging and alerting.

Sample Interaction:
User: "Alexa, open Diabotics and ask how is my health?"
Echo Show Screen: Show graph/chart of glucose levels and predictions for tomorrow
Alexa Voice: Based on trends with your glucose level history, your levels are predicted to fall into the danger zone tomorrow. Please be extra cautious and monitor frequently.
