A diabetic helper

Ever year, more and more people find themselves with diabetes mellitus and with the dangers associated with blood sugar levels, I wanted to create an application that could predict blood sugar levels in a person so that they can predict when to take their insulin medication and in the process, prevent any excess or lack of glucose in their blood.

In a country where 9% of the people are diabetic, I thought it would also be helpful if I added some extra information that would allow people to understand the accommodations some companies extend to diabetics. In addition, I explained how I got my results and why some things look the way they are in order to be transparent.

The challenges and learning I went through go hand in hand due to the fact that the bulk of my time was spent researching and comparing scientific papers, websites, and charts to make sure that my data and website would be as accurate as possible.

I chose to create the application in HTML5, CSS3, and JS primarily because it provides a free and open platform for people to access without requiring certain operating systems or applications (besides a web browser) to run.

What's next

I would like to aggregate more sources to make the data more accurate as well as update the graph to reflect the magnitude and scale of the blood sugar concentration. In addition, I would like to create an additional module that suggests how much insulin a person should take since Esna-Ashari et al. has a paper on modeling insulin injections in an unstable setting where the person can eat meals of varying glycemic indices.
