Inspiration

We found out that diabetic foot disease very much preventable with right Diagonostic tools. But we didnt find a single comprehensive diagnostic testing system to assess the patient's risk. There are multiple devices and also very subjective assessments in the market making it hard to build a diabetic patient foot ulcer risk profile.

What it does

The Diabetic Foot Insight Pad is a novel dual-pad diagnostic platform designed for the early detection of diabetic neuropathy. This work details its comprehensive design and evaluation, integrating pressure mapping, thermal sensitivity, sweat gland function assessment, and vibration perception testing. By generating a comprehensive patient profile, this platform enables machine learning applications for trend prediction and proactive risk assessment in diabetic foot care.

How we built it

We have built with the inspiration from commercially available individual devices and an engineering inspired solutions to clinical testing. Ultimately developed a nice protocol for a device which is relatively cheaper, accessible and easy to use for everyone involved.

Challenges we ran into

We found it hard to integrate various sensors and controllers and their assembly that are required for this device. Although we have tried to use commercially available components as much as possible, we had to find optimum control architectures and device integration etc.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Working as a diverse team of doctors and engineers, we have found that our diversity is our strength. It has brought out unique insights into solving this problem.

What we learned

From doing a thorough literature survey in medical and engineering fields to organizing, into neat reports and present it in an understandable way for everyone, we have a lot of learnings.

What's next for Diabetic Foot Insight Pad for Early Prediction& Diagnosis

We can go for detailed designs and manufacturing. Then we can proceed for clinical trials and validation.
