Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from the deep-rooted Omani heritage and the traditional camel migration known as Al-Khalṭah. This unique practice reflects the strong connection between humans, animals, and nature in Oman, where people carefully guide their camels through seasonal changes to ensure their safety and well-being.

The project documents and showcases the traditional camel relocation journey — moving camels from the lowland plains to the mountains and back after the Khareef (monsoon) season. It highlights how Omani communities adapt to environmental conditions while preserving their cultural identity.

How we built it

We built this project by observing the seasonal migration process, interviewing local herders, and collecting visual and narrative documentation. We combined traditional storytelling with modern documentation tools to create an authentic representation of the Al-Khalṭah journey.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was the difficult terrain during the Khareef season, as heavy rains make it hard to access some areas. Additionally, coordinating with herders and capturing accurate footage in changing weather conditions required patience and careful planning.
