Inspiration

Hey, my name is Yury and I'm a vibe coder. I love to build product and see how people use them.

But guess what I always struggle with? Of course it's marketing and distribution. And specifically one part been always tedious for me - product videos. I have some editing skills, but still I do it rarely so the workflow is so annoying:

  1. Find a tool for editing this time
  2. Spend day looking for new tools
  3. Fallback to iMovie eventually
  4. Plan the script
  5. Edit the footage
  6. Sleep over it
  7. WTH have I done?
  8. Go to 4

Yes! I could easily spend a week of my evenings after 9-5 going back and forth with something looking perfect to me. And now when I have 2 years old toddler those evening are especially precious.

So when I saw this hackathon I understood - this is the time to solve my pain, participate in something big and try a new tool for builders. And now I think it was an excellent decision!

Challenges I ran into

Truth be told, it was hard. My 9-5 still requires attention, my daughter and wife got sick for a week in June and my goal has been so big - to build the best, the most complex and ready-to-use product with Bolt. And to show myself and hopefully to everyone what is possible nowadays with tools like Bolt. "What previously was hard - now easy"

I started around 11th of June. I had around 2 full weeks to go, and I have been building like crazy. Every evening - daughter goes to sleep, I go build. Every afternoon aka lunch time - guess what? Same, build build build. And do not forget I have my 9-5 which also requires some heavy-lifting. At the end of the month goal is not only to finish the project, but to stay sane!

What I built

Anyway, I got distracted a bit. Product videos. How should it look like? In AI era? It should be as simple as possible of course. Just drop raw footage (even silent and faceless) and get ready to publish launch/demo/explanatory video in a few minutes. Feasible? Yes, sir! (or now I know, yes!)

So, meet Dex. It's Cursor (can I get into YC now?) for product videos. Drop footage, pick some branding, get results. Not happy? I built a fully working video editing timeline! With scenes and effects: zoom, kenburn, motion graphics, subtitles and audio.

But it's Cursor, so we need a chat with AI, with Dex, right? Yes, and I built it too!

Dex understands your video(s), scenes and effects breakdown and can make any changes. Not happy with scenes duration? Ask Dex to fix. This zoom effect on scene 7 looks awkward? Ask Dex. Want to adjust narration wording on scene 3 and change the voice? You know what to do!

Wrapping up, it was tough, it was fascinating, there were also some technical challenges even though Bolt offers (together with Supabase and Netlify) a decent tooling for building full-stack apps and deploy them.

Now Dex is live, I already used it for a couple of my other projects (including Dex itself). So now I'm going to spend a few fulfilling days with my family compensating them this building rush. And get back to work. Now with a new powerful AI mate in my team.

What's next for DexPM

I have a huge roadmap for Dex in my head. But I plan to get some real users feedback first and act accordingly!
