Inspiration
Workers in industrial and service sectors often suffer from wage theft, job fraud, delayed payments, and lose substantial earnings to platform commissions. Witnessing these challenges firsthand inspired us to build Dewages Network: a platform aiming to give workers security, transparency, and fast payments using blockchain technology[attached_file:1].
What it does
Dewages Network connects employers and workers directly through a decentralized blockchain platform. Smart contracts securely lock payments in escrow and release funds instantly after job completion is verified with GPS, QR, OTP, or photo-based proof. This eliminates intermediaries, reduces platform fees, and provides a fair, tamper-resistant system for both urban and rural users[attached_file:1].
How we built it
- We used the Solana blockchain for scalable, low-fee, high-speed transactions ((65{,}000~TPS), sub-cent fees)[attached_file:1].
- Smart contracts were written in Rust using the Anchor framework, handling jobs, escrows, and dispute flows[attached_file:1].
- The backend was built with Node.js (Express) serving REST APIs with JWT-based authentication[attached_file:1].
- A React.js frontend supports multilingual (English/Hindi/Marathi) and mobile-first UX[attached_file:1].
- MongoDB Atlas stores jobs, user profiles, and ratings; Cloudinary/S3 stores workflow images[attached_file:1].
- Wallet authentication (Phantom, MetaMask) ensures reputation is user-owned and portable[attached_file:1].
Challenges we ran into
- Debugging smart contracts and ensuring on-chain atomicity of payments was complex and time-consuming[attached_file:1].
- Achieving accessibility for rural, low-resource users while integrating robust multi-factor verification (GPS, QR, OTP, photo) was challenging[attached_file:1].
- We had to optimize for smooth wallet integration and adapt fast to cross-platform issues and scalability constraints[attached_file:1].
- Ensuring minimal operational cost and maintaining platform usability across languages and devices required detailed iteration[attached_file:1].
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a functioning, real-world blockchain escrow job platform with live job and payment flows[attached_file:1].
- Enabled instant, trustless payments for workers on successful proof, minimizing risk and delays[attached_file:1].
- Designed a system where workers own and can port their reputation (as NFTs) between platforms[attached_file:1].
- Kept costs low by building on open-source tools, free cloud tiers, and optimizing platform operations by 40% compared to competitors[attached_file:1].
What we learned
- Mastered secure, decentralized escrow and real-time payment flows on Solana blockchain[attached_file:1].
- Deepened our skills in smart contract debugging, wallet authentication, and API integration between decentralized and conventional web systems[attached_file:1].
- Learned inclusive design practices—making tech accessible to users in diverse environments and languages[attached_file:1].
- Developed a better understanding of the challenges vulnerable workers face, and the role of technology in solving real-world inequities[attached_file:1].
What's next for Dewages Network: Blockchain-Based Employment Platform
- Extend platform pilot to additional industries and rural clusters, onboarding thousands more workers and companies[attached_file:1].
- Add more verification methods, such as biometric proof, and deepen multilingual support for regional inclusivity[attached_file:1].
- Launch a governance and rewards layer to encourage platform-wide trust, democratized decision making, and sustainable growth[attached_file:1].
- Open-source core modules and invite partner integrations for ecosystem expansion (API, dev tools, mobile apps)[attached_file:1].
