Mimo: Your Personal Gmail Navigator

Inspiration

Navigating through Gmail can be overwhelming, especially when managing a high volume of emails. We wanted to create a solution that simplifies email management while enhancing productivity. Our goal was to leverage Chrome's built-in AI features to deliver a smart, interactive, and intuitive experience for email users.

What it does

Our project, Mimo, is a Chrome extension that acts as your personal Gmail navigator. Mimo helps users by:

  • Generating email drafts efficiently.
  • Summarizing lengthy email threads or content for quick understanding.
  • Providing automated replies to emails based on context.
  • Offering additional features that enhance email navigation and interaction.

With an easy-to-use and interactive front-end, Mimo ensures that managing emails becomes a hassle-free and enjoyable task.

How we built it

We utilized Chrome's built-in AI capabilities to implement Mimo's core functionalities. The interactive front-end was developed to ensure a user-friendly experience. Key components of the build process included:

  1. Gemini Nano API for contextual understanding and feedback integration.
  2. Summarize API for the text summarize feature.
  3. Translate API for the translation feature.
  4. Seamless integration with Gmail for real-time data interaction.
  5. React, HTML/CSS and Javascript for building the complex appilcation

Challenges we ran into

  • Complex Setup Procedures: Configuring and enabling the required APIs, such as Gemini Nano, involved a lengthy setup process, which initially slowed development.
  • Contextual Window Integration: Ensuring accurate contextual understanding while maintaining performance was technically challenging.
  • Balancing functionality with user experience, especially when adding advanced features.

What's next for Navigators

We aim to expand Mimo's capabilities by:

  • Introducing support for other google platforms beyond Gmail making Mimo a GSuite Navigator.
  • Adding voice-command features to make email navigation even more accessible.
  • Exploring additional productivity-enhancing tools, such as meeting schedulers and advanced analytics for email trends.
  • Streamlining the setup process for APIs to improve user onboarding.
