Inspiration

I have been on this platform for a little over a year. And have participated in several Hackathon of which I was only able to complete three and submit two projects. In addition to this I participated in a Hackathon promoted by another platform, which was a disaster. After going through these experiences I realized that my favorite platform for Hackathons is Devpost and I want to collaborate with what I can to improve the user experience through my feedback.

What it does

This is a brief feedback with some improvement ideas for the platform. Plus an idea for the mailings. I hope you find it useful.

How we Built it

I try to follow directions from this Hackthon Resources while using 'Project details' default format.

Challenges we ran into

I suffer from anxiety, depression and overthinking, which has been a big problem when I try to participate in any hackathon. Especially with my situation of changing careers while dealing with my family problems. The biggest obstacle I had was taking the courage to do it. Especially knowing that English is not my native language.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

So many times I didn't have the courage to do things for fear of failure. But thanks to some experiences and the flexibility of this platform, I understood that the important thing is to try. Not trying to make something perfect from scratch, just try. I am proud of that.

What we learned

I learned to step up and try to do something. I learned that even if it is not perfect, my opinion counts. And even more so if it is a well-intentioned opinion to help someone else.

What's next for Devpost Review and Ideas

My feedback is the next: This site has a great variety of Hackathon, good design that provides a good UX and I love how detailed is the description of the hackathon. Especially when it comes to explaining the rules in the legal aspect and access to resources of the hosting institution to help in the Hackathon. On the other hand, I believe that the site can make the following improvements:

  1. Add in the Hackathon's search engine the option "students" and "maximum age". Because as an adult who is changing careers it was frustrating to have to search for Hackathons for beginners and find many that said they were exclusively for students or young people of a certain age.
  2. Add a calendar to the user profile that can only be access by the user. To be able to see graphically or in calendar the Hackathons to which I registered. Which is very good for when you have several projects at the same time. If this calendar has an option to work with something similar to the Grantt Diagram, it would be great.
  3. Just as you send emails to promote hackathons, I would like to see once a month a newsletter type email with information relevant to the Hackathons. Something like "How to go to the next level with your Hackathon projects" "Time management....." "What you should know about Blockchain...."
  4. I think in some ways it would be great if you could be on the Play Store marketplace as an app. So I can see a Hackathon from my cell phone and have an option to synchronize the Hackathon with my cell phone calendar.
  5. It would be great if Hackathon Hosts have an option similar to 'Sub-tags' in the description that indicate the type of programming language to use. For example, in the description of the Hackathon, where are the 'Tag', as 'Low Code', put below these Tags the type of programming language that can be used. Like C++, JavaScript, HTML, others, etc.
