Food providers in Santa Barbara, especially UCSB dining commons, are notorious for the fact that they throw away plenty of food food at the end. Hearing about this from people who have worked there, we set out to try and fix that. In the United States alone there are hundreds of millions of pounds of food that go to waste every year.

What it does

Devour Power provides a platform for the food providers to signal out whether they have excess food or not and in what quantity. Students or even food banks can use this information to get food for less that would have gone to waste otherwise.

How we built it

Using the Esri API as a base with the site running on AWS, it is built from the ground up using javascript. The Android component uses WebView to get the website and is built using Android Studios.

Challenges we ran into

Overcoming new elements that we have not worked with. Coming up and smoothly implementing ideas.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating the Android app and learning the new API.

What we learned

More problem solving and teamwork mechanics. New technology as mentioned before.

What's next for Devour Power

Have more liability and more information on the food providers.
