DevOps Copilot AI — An Intelligent Assistant for Developers

Inspiration

Software developers often spend hours debugging build errors, investigating failed tests, searching technical documentation, and understanding unfamiliar codebases. Existing tools can help with individual tasks, but developers still need to move between multiple tools to identify problems and find reliable solutions.

We wanted to build a unified AI-powered developer assistant that simplifies this process and helps developers spend less time debugging and more time building.

What it does

DevOps Copilot AI is an AI-powered developer assistant designed to investigate software development problems and provide actionable debugging guidance.

Key features include:

  • AI Error Analyzer: Explains build errors and suggests possible solutions.
  • Build Log Analyzer: Identifies important errors and warnings in lengthy build logs.
  • Documentation Search: Helps developers find relevant technical documentation and supporting sources.
  • Git Repository Analyzer: Examines authorized project files, repository changes, and configuration to help investigate issues.
  • AI-Suggested Fixes: Generates proposed solutions that developers can review before applying.
  • Test Failure Analysis: Helps investigate failed tests and recommends verification steps.

How we plan to build it

The application uses a React and TypeScript frontend with a Python FastAPI backend. Amazon Bedrock is intended to power AI-based analysis, while the Model Context Protocol (MCP) will expose developer tools through a structured interface.

The MCP server is designed to provide tools for analyzing build logs, searching documentation, inspecting repositories, and investigating test results. These tools will allow a compatible AI client to retrieve relevant information and support development workflows.

The application will prioritize evidence-based recommendations, source references, and human approval before applying code changes or executing potentially consequential commands.

Challenges and learning

Key engineering challenges include interpreting different build-log formats, retrieving the right context from large repositories, grounding AI responses in reliable technical evidence, and safely exposing developer tools through MCP.

This project is an opportunity to explore agentic AI, AWS services, API integration, software debugging automation, and secure tool execution.

What makes it useful

DevOps Copilot AI aims to bring debugging assistance, repository investigation, documentation retrieval, and fix verification into one workflow.

Our goal is to make software troubleshooting more accessible to students, independent developers, and engineering teams while keeping developers in control of the changes applied to their projects.

Future scope

Future improvements may include automated test diagnosis, pull request analysis, multi-step debugging workflows, and integrations with additional development tools.

Note: The final submission will document the implemented features, tested integrations, and actual results of the working demonstration.
