The Story Behind Devo

I built Devo because I noticed a frustrating problem with AI coding assistants: they can confidently say a bug is fixed even when tests fail or the changes break something else. I wanted to build something that focuses on evidence rather than promises.

Devo is built with Python, pytest, and a CLI. It inspects the workspace, proposes code changes, shows a diff for approval, runs tests before and after the change, and produces a verdict based on actual test results. It also supports backups and rollback.

The biggest challenge was making verification trustworthy, especially handling timeouts, unsafe file paths, missing test evidence, and attempts to weaken tests. I learned that building reliable AI tools isn't just about making models smarter; it's about designing systems that know what they can actually prove.

I'm proud that Devo puts the developer in control and makes the difference between a successful fix, a failed check, and an inconclusive result clear.
