Inspiration
Devil In Disguise began as an experiment in psychological horror — but quickly grew into a deeper character study about loneliness, guilt, and the illusions the mind creates to protect itself.
THE ORIGIN OF THE IDEA
I wanted to explore a horror story without relying on jump scares or ghosts. Instead, the “monster” would come from inside the protagonist’s mind.
The concept was simple but powerful: A woman desperately searching for a cheap room to rent discovers a seemingly haunted boarding house. She believes she is not alone — that something in the walls is watching her, following her, whispering at night.
But the truth is far more disturbing. There is no ghost. She’s the danger.
THE TWIST THAT DEFINES THE STORY
Throughout the film, she experiences terrifying hallucinations. Doors slam. Shadows move. A “child” or a “tenant” appears. But the audience never realizes she is actually reliving her own violent acts.
By the end, the final reveal shows her calmly watching a news report about a gruesome murder — the very murder she committed — as if she were a stranger. Her mind fractured reality just to avoid facing who she truly is.
The title Devil In Disguise reflects this perfectly: The real demon is the version of ourselves we refuse to see.
VISUAL TONE & AESTHETIC
The visual identity was inspired by analog photography:
muted natural colors
slight film grain
soft underexposed lighting
realistic handheld framing
a Polaroid-like texture
psychological and grounded atmosphere
Everything was designed to feel intimate, raw, and unsettling — like memories you shouldn’t have found.
AI-POWERED PRODUCTION
The entire film was produced using AI tools:
Dreamina (text-to-image) for generating consistent scenes
Kling & Seedance for cinematic text-to-video sequences
Nano Banana for detailed character shots
Hailuo for subtle movement and atmospheric transitions
Careful prompt engineering ensured consistent tone and character continuity. The workflow combined AI generation, manual editing, color grading, and audio design to achieve a cohesive cinematic style.
WHAT THIS STORY MEANS
At its core, Devil In Disguise is a warning about the darkest parts of the human psyche. It’s not a ghost story. It’s a story of denial — the most terrifying disguise of all.
It shows how far a broken mind will go to protect itself from guilt, even if it means inventing monsters to blame.
This project became a way to explore mental disintegration, identity, and the horror of self-deception — all wrapped in a gritty, analog, psychological thriller atmosphere.
