Inspiration
Developers in Zambia(in Southern Africa) tend to be overlooked by local people hiring simply because they are not as visible. Most Dev work is outsourced and I want to make it a little easier for employers to find developers locally.
What it does
Developers.Zed is a web application that allows developers to create a profile and recommend other developers, users looking for developers can than search for developers and find recommendations due to the links between developers.
How we built it
This was built using the GRAND stack. It is a next js frontend application and an express graphql backend using express and a graph database.
Challenges we ran into
I had never used a graph database before nor had I used the cypher language either. It also took a little longer for me to wrap my head around using it with nextjs rather than just react. I learned a lot from William Lyon's blog
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I have a working GRAND stack application with authentication working!
What we learned
I learned about neo4j and graph databases for the first time. I learned the cypher query language and brushed up on my apollo and graphql knowledge.
I also used Chakra UI for the first time and that was a fun experience.
What's next for Developers.Zed
I would like to complete the prototype with proper recommendation, email invitations for new devs, search filtering and finally deployment on vercel and get my first beta users on the platform.
