San Jose State University and San Jose Public Library have a digital collection of photographs, posters, paintings and other artifacts – providing a rich visual history of San Jose and Santa Clara country. Currently it’s difficult to view the collection and discover any meaningful connection between the artifacts. It’s like looking through different books of information.
The goal is to make this collection a more meaningful and immersive learning experience for the general public, students and educators – locally and around the country.
Opening up the collection’s data – enables engagement with the library’s digital collection – whether it’s developers creating apps – or students being inspired by history. Image a student being able to search for SJ city hall and then visually browse through the collection articles
Users – Wouldn’t it be cool if the library connected with students to develop apps for their collection? Also, this would be a great learning tool for elementary teachers on local history.
