Inspiration

As someone who’s loved anime since childhood, I always dreamed of creating an original series—something that blends the emotional power and dynamic visuals ,as kid , I was deeply inspired by anime like Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Pokémon—shows that didn’t just entertain but sparked imagination and emotion,. That's how Deva was born.

What it does

Deva is an anime-inspired mythological adventure that tells the story of a young Indian boy chosen by Lord Shiva to wield divine fire against ancient evil. It brings Indian spiritual themes, traditional mythology, and cultural symbolism into a visually dynamic and emotionally gripping anime format. Using state-of-the-art AI tools for animation and design, Deva not only showcases powerful visuals but also reimagines how solo creators can produce cinematic content.

How we built it

The journey to create Deva began with a simple belief: if Japanese anime can express their culture through art and storytelling, then so can we. Without a budget and working solo, I turned to AI as both my co-creator and my toolkit. Early experiments with DALL·E 3 helped me explore character concepts and visual direction, but the lack of consistency made it difficult to form a series. Later, ChatGPT-4o’s image model brought improved creativity and tone—yet still fell short during high-intensity action scenes. The real breakthrough came with a combo of Nana Banana for imagery and Sora 2 for video generation, which allowed me to storyboard, animate, and manage character continuity with far greater control. Scene by scene, frame by frame, I built Deva from scratch—using cutting-edge generative AI to bring Indian mythology to life.

Challenges we ran into

No Budget, No Team: Building an anime-style series solo, without financial backing, was extremely tough.

Character Consistency: Early AI tools couldn’t maintain consistent character design across multiple frames, forcing many restarts.

Glitchy Video Animation: Action scenes often broke down in AI-generated videos, with character distortions or missing body parts. Audio Limitations: While visuals improved with new models, AI voice generation—especially expressive, emotional voice acting—is still not good enough and not freely available for true anime-quality delivery.

Multiple Restarts: Scrapped visuals and broken sequences constantly required me to start over, testing patience and creativity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Combining Mythology and Anime: Successfully translated Indian mythological themes into a modern anime visual language.

Solo Animation with AI: Built an animated short (and foundation for a series) with no budget and a single creator using only AI tools.

Visual and Narrative Consistency: Achieved consistent character design and scene structure through iterative experimentation with new models.

Overcoming Limitations: Transformed what was once impossible for one person into a working prototype—a dream becoming reality.

What we learned

Powerful imagination combined with persistence and the right tools can overcome skill gaps and resource limitations.

Storytelling is not just about visuals; it's about emotional intent and cultural respect.

The evolution of AI has transformed solo projects into opportunities previously only accessible to teams or studios.

Every failure carries learning—each scrapped video or broken scene taught me more about what works and what doesn’t.

Creativity still requires human direction, no matter how powerful the technology becomes.

What's next for Deva

The vision for Deva is to evolve from a short film into a rich animated series—a multi-episode mythological fantasy that introduces Indian culture to global audiences through a new lens. Next steps include:

Polishing the pilot episode and releasing it online

Expanding the story into episodic arcs with deeper lore and high-energy battles

Seeking collaboration with animators, voice artists, and cultural advisors

Launching a pitch deck or crowdfunding campaign to find budget and team support

Continuing to refine visual output as AI tools evolve—especially for fight choreography and high-motion sequences
