As such, this project draws inspiration from Dug Song's keynote address. His life story of turning mistakes into opportunities, giving back to the community, and the importance of educational and professional second chances resonate deeply with our mission."

Dug's emphasis on providing chances and engaging with the community aligns perfectly with our goal to positively influence the youth in Detroit through gamified coding education.

What it does

Detroit Gamified Coding introduces students to the fundamentals of coding through interactive and fun game-based learning modules. By turning complex coding concepts into engaging games and puzzles, this project makes learning accessible and exciting for young students." The program promotes logical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity for students, which are essential skills in today’s tech-driven world.

How we built it

Technologically, we used HTML, JavaScript were used to build the interactive elements of the platform.

Challenges we ran into

"One of the main challenges was ensuring the content was both educational and entertaining.

Another challenge was accessibility. The platform would need to be used on various devices, especially in communities where resources might be limited."

Integrating progress tracking and meaningful rewards that motivate without causing frustration was also a complex.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developed a user-friendly interface that kept students engaged and eager to progress through levels. Created partnerships with local schools and educational nonprofits to further our reach and impact.

What we learned

We learned the importance of iterative design. Regular feedback from our users was crucial in refining and improving our platform. Understanding our user base—what excites them, what frustrates them, and how they learn—was key to our development process. Collaboration with educators and tech experts provided invaluable insights that helped bridge the gap between education and technology.

What's next for Detroit Gamified Coding

Expanding our reach: Detroit Gamified Coding plans to roll out the program to schools in Detroit and eventually across Michigan.

Enhancing content: We aim to include more advanced coding topics and other STEM-related subjects.

Building community: Partnering with local tech companies and universities to provide mentorship and career guidance to our students.

Long-term impact: By continuously improving our platform, we hope to foster a love of learning and provide a positive impact for students.
