FIX Protocol plays an important role in financial trading, but its technical structure can make messages difficult to understand, especially for beginners and developers unfamiliar with the protocol. We were inspired to build a tool that makes FIX messages easier to interpret while addressing the reliability concerns of using AI in financial applications.
We built our project by combining deterministic parsing with bounded AI assistance. The deterministic engine interprets FIX messages according to protocol rules, while AI helps translate technical details into clear, plain-English explanations. By separating parsing from explanation, we aim to make the system both reliable and accessible while reducing AI hallucinations.
Throughout development, we learned about FIX Protocol, structured message parsing, and the importance of setting boundaries for AI-generated content. One of our biggest challenges was balancing simplicity with technical accuracy. Financial messages contain specialized fields and conventions, so explanations must remain understandable without changing the original meaning. We also had to consider how to prevent AI from generating unsupported information.
This project taught us that AI is most useful when applied thoughtfully rather than given complete control. By combining deterministic logic with carefully bounded AI assistance, we hope to make FIX message analysis more efficient, transparent, and trustworthy for developers, researchers, and financial professionals.
