Inspiration
We were inspired by the increasing amount of food waste, and the need for people to better track their food consumption and expiration dates. Our goal was to create an easy-to-use app that helps users keep track of groceries and their shelf life, ensuring they use ingredients before they go bad.
What it does
deteriorEATS is an innovative mobile app designed to help users track their food items and their expiration dates. Users can log grocery receipts, and the app will automatically calculate their expiration dates based on average shelf life, and display them in a digital pantry. The app will notify users when food items are nearing their expiration date, allowing them to reduce food waste and better manage their groceries.
How we built it
We built the app using Flutter and Android Studio. We did our code using Cmake, dart, C++, along with a little kotlin, HTML, and swift.
Challenges we ran into
Neither of us had used flutter and android studio before so we ran into many technical issues during set up and debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our UI design and of being able to create a digital pantry for our users. We were able to create a seamless user experience where they can easily log their produce and view the shelf life.
What we learned
We honed our skills in Flutter, learning how to build cross-platform applications with a single codebase.
What's next for deteriorEATS
We plan to add a receipt scanning aspect, and integrate ML into the scanner so that users can simply take an image of their receipt and have all of the information be provided. We are also looking into adding a preservation tips page that gives users advice on how to make their produce last longer.
