💡 Inspiration

I wanted to make math exciting and accessible for middle schoolers by turning equations into interactive mysteries. Inspired by noir comics like Batman and villains like The Riddler, we combined storytelling with STEM challenges to create an immersive experience that’s both educational and thrilling.

⚙️ What it does

Detective Pi: The Equationist’s Countdown is an interactive digital comic designed in Canva. It follows Detective Pi as he solves math puzzles to stop a villain from detonating a bomb in Math City’s school. Each puzzle must be solved to continue the story—blending narrative, math, and interactivity in a comic book format.

🛠️ How we built it

• Design Platform: Canva was used to design every comic panel with consistent character art, custom AI-generated visuals, and styled speech bubbles.
• AI Tools: Prompts were crafted for generating consistent comic-style characters using DALL·E
• Fonts & Styling: Comic-appropriate fonts like Bangers, Comic Neue, and Anton were used to capture a 1950s noir comic style with visual clarity.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

• Maintaining Comic Style Consistency: Ensuring AI-generated images matched the noir detective aesthetic across all scenes.

* Balancing Difficulty & Story Flow: Keeping math puzzles educational but not too complex for middle schoolers while maintaining a strong storyline was tricky.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Crafted a full interactive comic narrative from cover to finale in Canva—without using code.
• Created a seamless learning experience where math becomes part of the story, not a separate element.
• Designed an engaging villain and hero dynamic that keeps readers motivated to solve problems.
