Inspiration
Breast Cancer is the Second leading cause of cancer death in women and hence, education & awareness should not stop during the pandemic.
It is a privilege to have access to technology and we should use it to make a better tomorrow. A heightened awareness of the breast cancer has led to a greater number of women being screened for breast cancer. Patients are experiencing better outcomes because of early diagnosis.
Becoming self-aware is a starting point for self-improvement. Awareness is power!
What it does
A flask application for breast cancer detection (Under Development). The app can tell whether the breast mass is benign or malignant. It uses the random forest classifier to find the pattern in the data based on the input values The attributes in the sample are in the range (1-10). So, users will enter the values of attributes and clicking on the predict button can tell whether it's benign or malignant. Be it breaking socio-economic and geo barriers or bringing in the right type of help at the right time, we have got all of it in our hands.
How we built it
• Python and Jupyter were used for building Machine Learning model • Random Forest Classifier gave us best results • Flask for deployment • HTML and CSS for building the prototype of the Breast Cancer Website • Data Visualization through Histograms in R
Challenges we ran into
1st Hackathon, 2 days, 3 people, dates 4, 5 and 6. Being newbies, we didn't have any experience. Learning flask and CSS from scratch in 2 days was definitely a challenge. We had to do the coding twice to get the final result. The most difficult part was implementing new things.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As it was our 1st Hackathon, we got no heads up. It was really a hack(mara)thon for us. Time and work pressure made us more strong, practical and motivated. We are glad to have submitted our first project. Hard work paid off.
What we learned
@Soni - Model Deployment through flask(Beginner level) @Rajshree - CSS and html skills polished @Nishita - Data Analyzing and R, Canva, Excel and Presentation skills polished And most importantly we learned "What is a Hackathon?"
What's next for Detecting Severity of Breast Cancer
The next level is to predict the risk factor of Breast Cancer in a person through details such as age, sex, balanced diet, exercising days in a week, personal history, reproductive history and alcohol consumption. The next level will be more practical and pragmatic.
