Inspiration
Waiting for the airplane to land and circle the runway can take several minutes. Those costly minutes can cause someone to be late to a connecting flight, business trip, or important event. With Detech, we wanted to create something that can save your time by making the arrival process seamless.
What it does
Detech is a remote controlled car that provides runway assistance to aircrafts and guides them to their targeted terminal. By using machine learning we can make the RC car memorize the paths of a runway while avoiding obstacles that may impede its way.
How we built it
Python
Raspberry Pi
TensorFlow
Opencv
Keras API
Ultrasonic Sensor
Google Colab
Neural Networks
RC Car (3D Printed Body)
Nvidia Jetson Nano
Raspberry Pi Camera
Xbox One Controller
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges that our team ran into was figuring out how to configure our program to identify object recognition. Though we were able to get the code to work, we could not properly integrate object recognition's full capabilities with our current program.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a working RC car that can actively record by taking multiple pictures per second and then stitch them together to create a video recording.
What we learned
We used one of the subsystems of AI which is machine learning to get the RC car to move automatically over a designated path.
What's next for Detech
Implementing more cameras on the RC car to get a full 360 degree view.
