Inspiration

We wanted to make a silly and lighthearted desktop companion so that we can have something running in the background of our laptops while we work! It is intended to keep your desktop more interesting and help to keep you motivated during long working hours.

What it does

Our program features a small companion that does silly things on your desktop and watches you while you work. It has a collection of different types of interactions and random chance events the longer that it is active on your device.

How we built it

We built our desktop companion with a mixture of our own ideas and experimenting with Claude Code. The main ideas we were exploring were too see how far we could push the limits of AI in code generation since we do not get many opportunities to use AI to its full extent in a school setting.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges that we ran into was attempting to integrate AI into our coding workflow when code is split between multiple people.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud that we were able to integrate so many interactions into our companion! We are very happy to have a working program that can retain attention over a long period of time.

What we learned

We learned a lot about integrating AI into our general coding workflow. Additionally, we have gained more experience working on our project as a team and splitting tasks to keep the project development efficient.

What's next for Desktop Companion

We want to explore adding more customization options for our desktop companion and more complex interactions for it with the user. Some features that we hope to be able to add to it is to be able to ask it to search for specific files on your desktop and answer basic questions about your device.
